We probably want to avoid all fractions wherever they appear. When studying the history of mathematics I was horrified to learn that the ancient Egyptians did ALL arithmetic using fractions. Now, here are two to avoid in writing:
“Ten times less.” Make it 1/10th as much. This is division, not multiplication.
“Decimate” means to reduce by 1/10th, that is, from 100% to 90%. It does not mean to completely destroy.
